In one of the best matches in this tournament Aurelien Diesse (FRA) defeated current World Champion Nemanja Majdov (SRB) in his first round of the World Championships U90kg. The tournament goes on without the world champion from Serbia.

Diesse who won his first match against Zachary Burt (CAN) is last year’s European Junior Champion. The Frechman showed great fighting skills and with a dangerous Sasae he almost caught Majdov. A superb fight by both players with strong stamina and balance they kept the match without a score in the first four minutes. But then the Golden Score evolved into a heroic fight, both knew, both felt and both had a hard time. Majdov seemed to have the best condition but it was Diesse who launched the best attacks over and over again. Majdov got two penalties, one for grabbing the leg and after six minutes in the golden score, a match time of 10 clean minutes as Majdov also had an injury treatment, it was the referee deciding the match with a penalty for both players it was Majdov who lost by hansoku.

Both athlete knew this was a heroic fight and thanked each-other for the awesome fight with all respect. Then Majdov knew it was all over for him and fell on the tatami. The red back patch is gone, but he will keep ever lasting fame. Conditionally he could have done it today, but it wasn’t that day.

Last year he won his first round against 2013 Asley Gonzalez of Cuba and grew into the tournament. In his next contest it was time for Diesse to survive this awesome pool with Gonzalez as opponent and again a golden score but this time it was Gonzalez who won the battle after 5.5 minutes of fight. The World Championships lasted 16 minutes for Diesse normally good enough for a top 8 position. Gonzalez will face guys like Sherazadishvili, who defeated Igolnikov and Ozerler (Zgank) who overcame Stewart.

On the other side of the table Beka Gviniashvili, also considered as one of the favourites got thrown in the first round against Eduard Trippel of Germany, another gutsy challenger like Diesse.
