Erika Miranda overcame her biggest enemies in 2017
Erika Miranda took a few years to reach the top U52kg but is now rock solid for the last four years. With a number one position in the IJF World Ranking, Brazil’s quadruple World medallist took 2017 to the max.
At Olympic level Miranda isn’t lucky with a ninth place in London and a loss in the bronze medal bout in Rio. But her world success started in Rio in 2013 at the World Championships with a silver medal behind nemesis Majlinda Kelmendi. Since then she achieved to win a medal each time, three bronze medals in 2014, 2015 and this year in Budapest.
Although Miranda isn’t as dominant as Majlinda, she medals a lot of times. Over the last year she won a international event such as the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg this year where she bested Alesya Kuznetsova in the final. This year in Budapest she defeated Kelmendi, finally and took world bronze. It was her eight World Championships since 2007. Coached by Rosicleia Campos and Mario Tsutsui Miranda was able to keep growing and overcome her biggest enemies.
After Budapest she cemented her number one position with silver at the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi and bronze with her first Masters medal.
