Usual suspects to the semi finals at last judo day
In the women’s division +78kg three athletes were favourite to qualify for the finals, and the fourth, French Emilie Andeol wouldn’t surprise anyone as well. The French qualified via victories against Zambotti (MEX) and Cheikh Rouhou (TUN) a relatively easier pool. Andeol will fight World Number one and World Champion Yu Song of China in the semi final. Yu bested Sonia Asselah (ALG) and Kayra Sayit (TUR) without wasting too much energy.
The other semi final is between Idalys Ortiz of Cuba, the reigning Olympic Champion, and Kanae Yamabe of Japan, a dangerous outsider. She defeated Ortiz twice. Ortiz couldn’t complain the quarter final against Kim Min-Jeong but she survived the pool where also Brazilian outsider Maria Suelen Altheman had a chance, but she lost to Kim. Ortiz is still in the race to become double Olympic Champion like Kayla Harrison and perhaps Teddy Riner today. Yamabe defeated Tessie Savelkouls by ippon in the quarter and and Santa Pakenyte by ippon in her first match.
Repechage
Sayit vs Cheikh Rouhou 2-0
