What a surprising third day in the category U100kg where the dark horses screw up the common elite at the European Championships in Kazan. Only title defender Henk Grol was able to stand the pressure in the pool of death where he defeated Beka Gviniashvili and Elmar Gasimov.

Toma Nikiforov of Belgium was expected in the last eight but achieved the reach the semi final after defeating Michael Korrel who upset Cyrille Maret. Grol will fight Austrian surprise Christoph Kronberger who caught Olympic bronze medallist Dimitri Peters and Jevgenijs Borodavko. Nikiforov faces Grigori Minaskin of Estonia, the Nordic countries doing well this tournament. Minaskin personally bested 2014 World Champion Lukas Krpalek. As expected the elite is shaken up as a warning with 104 days to go.
