Czech crowd see Pavel Petrikov in the final U60kg

The Czech fans are happy with a final for Pavel Petrikov. At the European Open in Prague Petrikov will fight French judoka Cedric Revol U60kg. It’s the first time that Petrikov reached the final in his own homeland. His father won the tournament a few times in the eighties where it the tournament didn’t have the status of a World Cup.
It’s the seventh time though that the experienced Czech is in the final though. His last victory was in 2015 in Wollongong, but his last victory in Europe was achieved in 2009. Revol won his first World Cup medal in January this year when he lost the final at the African Open in Tunis.
Slovenian Andraz Jereb is in the final U66kg against Dovdon Altansukh of Mongolia. In the category for men U73kg Polish hope Damian Szwarnowiecki will fight Georgios Azoidis in the final. All finalist never fought eachother in an official match before.

Naohisa Takato is one of the world top athletes of the European Open in Prague. The Japanese double World Champion will start U66kg for a change. In his weight class the number one seed though is Dzmitry Minkou who booked so many successes over the last year. In total 299 judoka are at the start in Prague from 41 country. Read more
Naohisa Takato hit the medal table with second gold medal for Japan. The lightweight regained the world title and was simply the best. Takato of Japan was again solid in his techniques and now won the gold after his bronze in Rio de Janeiro he opens the Olympic cycle with gold. Read more
Due to the reduction of the points of the Grand Prix of Düsseldorf in 2015 by 50% and 2014 to 0% some small moves occurred in the World Ranking top 10. With the new points of Prague and Warsaw only a few benefit in the top 20 of the World Ranking. For the first time in his career Pavel Petrikov was able to take the gold medal at his ‘own’ tournament in Prague. With this victory young Petrikov, stepped into the footlight of his father, also Pavel, who won the tournament in the eighties. For Petrikov it is also the first time that he wins a European World Cup since 2009. In the final U60kg the Czech judoka was able to overcome French judoka Cedric Revol U60kg. Read more
This weekend The Czech Republic is ready to welcome all male athletes for the last stop of the European Opens during the qualifying period for Rio 2016. In Prague over 300 competitors amongst 58 nations will be on show at Arena Sparta in Prague. Among the athletes 2014 World Champion Lukas Krpalek fighting U100kg. Krpalek can defend his title of 2014 and continue his streak, also in 2012 Lukas won the Czech Open. Read more
