The unknown judoka made an eye-catching start by scoring three times against Chantal Wright (USA) including an ippon-seoi-nage for the maximum score. Kwon bested former world number one Elvismar Rodriguez (VEN) with a ko-uchi-gari and outfought Roxane Taeymans (BEL) who was penalised three times.
