Brazilian Rafael Buzacarini won Pan American Open's and took several medals at major events such as Grand Prix Miami, Almaty, Qingdao and Dusseldorf. He won bronze in 2013 at the FISU Universiade. Bronze at the Panam Championships in 2014. In 2015 Buzacarini won silver at the Grand Slam of Paris. He claimed bronze at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi in 2017 and silver in 2019. He claimed a bronze medal at the 2018 Grand Prix in Cancun. He clinched a silver medal at the Grand Prix in Antalya in 2019.

Tel Aviv Grand Prix winner Alexandre Iddir of France this defeated Tbilisi Grand Prix silver medallist Rafael Buzacarini (BRA) to win his country’s first gold medal at the Grand Prix in Antalya. World number 22 Iddir pulled away from his Brazilian adversary in golden score as Buzacarini had to attack with two shidos to his name and he got caught with a ko-uchi-gari for ippon. Read more


Kazbek Zankishiev salvages gold for Russia

Russian Kazbek Zankishiev won his country’s first and only gold medal in Tbilisi as he prevailed against a shot-shy Cancun Grand Prix bronze medallist Rafael Buzacarini (BRA). The Brazilian had never won an IJF gold medal and you could see why on this showing as he picked up three shidos to gift the gold medal to the Russian Hohhot Grand Prix silver medallist who now has a hat-trick of Grand Prix titles.
