Aavo Pôhjala is President of the Estonian Judo Federation since 2015. He won various Estonian State Championships.Põhjala started judo in 1969 and his first judo club called Tartu Do. As an athlete he finished 5th place at the Cadet USSR [Soviet Union] Championships. His coaching career began in 1974. During his years as national coach [1983-2013] Põhjala was working with elites: Indrek Pertelson, Aleksei Budolin and Martin Padar.
