Canadian judoka Christa Deguchi won bronze at the World Championships in Baku in 2018 as first Canadian woman. She won the Grand Slam of Ekaterinburg in 2019. She won several IJF medals at a young age. She won two World Junior Championships medals and gold with the team of Japan. Japan-Canadian parents and speaks English. She won the Grand Slam in Paris twince, Pan American title and Grand Prix in Hohhot and Zagreb many times in the final against Jessica Klimkait (CAN). She won two Panam titles.

Paris Grand Slam winner Christa Deguchi of Canada defeated Marrakech Grand Prix winner Lien Chen-Ling (TPE) to win the U57kg gold medal in Ekaterinburg and she completed her Grand Slam hat-trick. Deguchi pinned down Lien for 20 seconds to seal her second Grand Slam title in as many months having won in the French capital in February. Read more

Appealing contests for women at Grand Slam Ekaterinburg

The Grand Slam of Ekaterinburg booked a record number of participants. With 358 athletes of 47 nations saw by far more athletes this year compared to 2018 and 2017. Only the Grand Slams in Moscow attracted more judoka in 2010 (488) and 2011 (458). We will have a look at the women in Russia after the draw.
