Córdoba judoka Tomas Morales is the understudy to Lucenti, and has earned his second call-up to an IJF World Championships. The Pan American Open silver medallist produced a credible showing at Budapest 2017 as he lost to Egypt’s Mohamed Abdelaal in the third round. Morales is yet to medal outside of the Americas at a ranking event. In 2017 he won silver at the Pan American Open in Lima and bronze in Buenos Aires. He captured a bronze medal at the Pan American Open in Santiago and Lima in 2019.
