Song Sim Rim of North Korea won gold at the Grand Prix in Hohhot in 2017. She won bronze at the Asian Championships in 2015. She took bronze at the Asian Junior Championships in 2013 as promising judoka. Asian Games bronze medallist Rim is one of the most established members of the team. The uchi-mata connoisseur made her World Championships debut in 2013 but had to wait until 2017 to make her mark on the IJF World Judo Tour. She took a bronze medal at the Asian Pacific Championships in 2019.

North Korean Rim Song Sim had the measure of Ecaterina Guica of Canada in the U52kg final to capture her country’s first medal in Hohhot. Rim, became the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s third Grand Prix winner as she followed in the footsteps of Sol Kyong and Kuk Hyon Hong. The Asian judoka, whose team has been supported by the IJF to take part in China, won by ippon with a yoko-tomoe-nage. It was the first World Tour win of North Korea since 2014. Read more

The Grand Prix in Hohhot in China attracted a number of top athletes such as Olympic champion Lukas Krpalek (CZE) who competes in the heavyweight category. Also present were Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallist Dorjsuren Sumiya (MGL) and former world champion Munkhbat Urantsetseg (MGL), as well as reigning world champion Haga Ryunosuke (JPN), who won bronze at the Olympics last year.
