Canada delivers double gold at first European Open for women
Ecaterina Guica and Christa Deguchi had a perfect day on Saturday at the European Open in Odivelas, Portugal. They both won in their own category. Canada tops the table after day of the first European Open of the year. Ecaterina Guica won her category U52kg in the final against Karolina Pienkowska. Guica won all her matches by ippon. Read more

New tall generation will dominate European Open in Lisbon
Lisbon is the centre of women’s judo this weekend. The European Open will be held at the Odivelas sports centre with 14 Portuguese women. Joana Diogo is the highest seeded Portuguese woman in the starting grid. She should be able to show the Portuguese flag on the podium. The 22-year old won bronze at the European Open last year in Minsk and might be an ace U48kg. Read more

Arleta Podolak keeps outlook for Rio after golden trick
The gold medal for women U57kg at the Grand Prix was for Arleta Podolak who definitely needed those 300 points to launch her in the top 20. Her sharp Juji gatame in the final against Spanish Jaione Equisoain did it for the former World Junior Champion after Equisoain missed her uchimata and was outbalanced. Read more

Challengers take the opportunity at Almaty Grand Prix
Elio Manzi again showed great judo and the Italian youngster qualified for the final U60kg at the Grand Prix of Almaty. Manzi will face number one seed Rustam Ibrayev, the world’s number two of last World Championships. Ibrayev is the favourite but Manzi showed he is not afraid of anyone. Both Uzbek favourites Lutfillaev and Urozboyev are both in the bronze finals against Kazach opponents Imashev and Telmanov. Read more

Experienced judoka take gold at Panam Open Buenos Aires
Spain was the most successful country at the first day of the Pan American Open in Buenos Aires. The strong team of just 6 Spanish in action won four medals. Sugoi Uriarte seemed to secure his participation at the Olympic Games in Rio with gold U66kg. Jaione Equisoain also won gold for her nation defeating Yadinys Amaris of Colombia in the category U57kg. She took over the victory of last year by Conchi Bellorin. Read more
