Russian judoka Vladimir Degtyarev won the World Cup in Sofia in 1997. He claimed various medals at A-tournaments in Minsk, Moscow and Sofia. The Russian lightweight won the National title in 1997. He won bronze with the Russian team at the World Championships Teams in Minsk in 1998. He became a coach for Russia.
