Kazakh judoka Yeldos Zhumakanov got world fame when he surprised with a fifth place at the World Championships in 2015 in Astana. Also at home Zhumakanov won the Grand Prix in Almaty in 2013 U66kg which was one of his career highlights, among various international World Cup medals. He took a silver medal at the IJF Masters in St. Petersburg in 2017. He clinched a silver medal at the Asian Pacific Championships in Fujairah in 2019. He captured a silver medal at the Grand Prix in Budapest in 2019.
