Swiss judoka Tamara Silva won bronze at the European Cup in Tampere in 2016. She won the Swiss title in 2016 in Neuchatel Tamara took a silver medal at the 2017 European Cup in Bratislava. She took a bronze medal at the European Cup in Belgrade in 2018. She won gold at the European Cup in Uster in 2019 and silver in Dubrovnik. She took a silver medal at the European Cup in Sarajevo 2019.

European Cup in Uster breeding ground for challengers

Georgia, France and Germany were the best nations at the first European Cup of the season held in Uster. Most over young athletes between 18 and 24 won the titles with young Georgians and more experienced French judoka. One thing they have in common, they are either approaching senior level and considered the challengers for a higher level or trying to get a foot between the door at this European Cup level, where a gold medal is celebrated as a career best. Swiss Open first of 12 European Cups this season

The first of twelve European Cups this weekend will kickoff in Uster, near Zürich. The Swiss Open Judo is held for the second time as European Cup but has a longer history where great athletes appeared. Three years ago Tadahiro Nomura made a small comeback in Uster. One of the winners in 2012 was double World Champion Majlinda Kelmendi. Olympic champion Tagir Khaibulaev won in 2008. Olympic bronze medallists Charline van Snick won the edition in 2009. Read more
