French heavyweight judoka Julia Tolofua won the European Junior title in 2016 in Malaga. She won the European Cup in Berlin and Lignano in 2016 and Belgian Open in Arlon. She took bronze at the European Open in Madrid in 2016. She became French senior champion in 2017. She won gold at the European Cup in Uster in 2019. Julia Tolofua fights back tears after shock win

French outsider Julia Tolofua was the surprise heavyweight winner on the last day in Tbilisi as the little-known +78kg fighter defeated Junior World Championships silver medallist Beatriz Souza (BRA) in the final. In her first IJF final Tolofua took the contest to the world number nine who was thrown with an o-soto-gari for a waza-ari score and that was the only time the scoreboard was summoned. Read more

European Cup in Uster breeding ground for challengers

Most over young athletes between 18 and 24 won the titles with young Georgians and more experienced French judoka. European Cup Berlin good practise for Malaga in September

Eighteen medal winning nations at the Junior European Cup in Berlin. France however was the most dominant nation with four gold and ten medals in total. Russia and Italy also impressed with three gold medals. Nemanja Majdov celebrates junior comeback with gold in Lignano

Italy and Slovenia had the most successful juniors at the European Cup in Lignano this weekend. Both countries won three titles at the third European Cup of the season. On Saturday the host nations started well with victories in the men’s lightweight categories. Both talents Andrea Carlino (U55kg) and Manuel Lombardo (U60kg) won gold.
