Judoka Fraj Dhouibi of Tunisia won the African Championships in 2019 and 2914 U60kg. The lightweight won 7 African medals since 2011 including silver in 2016 at the African Championships in 2016. Bronze at the 2015 World Military Games. He won silver at the African Open in Tunis in 2017. He captured a silver medal at the African Games in Rabat in 2019.

South Africa celebrates first continental gold since 2014

South Africa’s Geronay Whitebooi delighted the home crowd by claiming the women’s U48 kilograms gold medal on the opening day of the African Senior Judo Championships in Cape Town. Whitebooi beat Algeria’s Hadjer Mecerem in the final at Cape Town University's Indoor Sports Hall. It was for the first time since 2014 South African won a continental title. Read more

Taciana Lima Cesar captures fifth African title

The first title of the African Championships is traditionally reserved for Taciana Cesar of Guinee-Bissau. Cesar nee Lima, won her fifth consecutive African title. In the final in Madagascar she won by ippon against Olfa Saoudi, a repetition of last year’s final in Tunis. The 33-year old Cesar was Pan American Champion in 2001. In 2013 she switched from Brazil to Guinee-Bissau. Read more

French judoka impress at first event with new rules

France have won six out of the eight gold medals at the first Continental open of the season. The African Open in Tunis was the first ocassion where the new rules were applicable. The French men won all categories and only Tunisia's Olfa Saoudi and Cristina Cabana Perez of Spain won their categories. Read more

Tunisia wins medal table at African Championships Egypt surprises

Host nation Tunisia showed its power in judo with five gold medals and 16 medals in total. The home crowd was satisfied with Saturday’s gold for Hela Ayari U52kg and Faicel Jaballah who captured the double in this tournament winning both plus and Open category. Sensational were the four gold medals for the Egyptian men, at the second and last individual day Egypt added another two titles, for the first time since 2009 four different Egyptian judoka won a gold medal at the African Championships. With seven medals in the men’s division Egypt can be confident for the Olympic Games as the form is better than ever before. Read more

African Judo Championships help qualifying for Rio2016

Athletes from 31 nations will fight for the essential Qualification Points to participate at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The African Championships in Tunis are more important than ever and in the 14 weight classes each point can help the athletes to Rio. Last year at the African Championships the current host Tunisia was amazingly strong picking 50% of all 16 available medals including Open category.
