Judoka Estefania Soriano of the Dominican Republic clinched the gold medal at the Pan American Open in Santo Domingo in 2018 She debuted at the 2019 World Championships U48kg. She won Pan American Games in July 2019. The Valencia Judo Club talent will be a new name for many observers as she has never appeared at a Grand Prix or Grand Slam and has largely been confined to competing in Pan American events. She was fifth at Youth World Championships in 2013 and 2014 Youth Olympic Games. She claimed a bronze medal at the Pan American Oceania Championships in Lima in 2022.
