Erich Zielke
In the 1950s Erich Zielke was one of the first athletes to train in judo in East Germany. In 1959 he won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Vienna and then seized silver at the European Championships in 1962. He was discovered during the Army Spartakiade in 1959 with bronze, the first European championship medal for the still young GDR in judo. In 1962 he topped this result again with the silver medal. In 1965 he ended his sporting career and remembered his coach's advice again. In 1991 he worked as Consul General in Vietnam and lived in Saigon.
