Sonia Asselah of Algeria was African champion in 2014 and 2012. After winning the African junior title in 2010 she won World Cup medals. The Algerian heavyweight won 12 African medals. Silver at the 2015 All African Games, African Open and African Championships. in 2016. She is flag bearer for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. African Junior champion in 2010. In 2018 she took a bronze medal at the European Open in Warsaw. She claimed bronze at the African Open in Dakar in 2019. Sonia captured the gold medal at the Belgian Open in Herstal in 2022 and silver at the African Open in Algiers in 2023.
