German judoka Matthias Schießleder was the 1960 European Champion and won bronze in 1959. In 1963 he was in the European team final with the West German team. On October 20, 1964, in the first-ever Olympic Judo match, Matthias Schießleder faced off against Austrian judoka Karl Reisinger. Schießleder won 5 West German titles U70 and U80kg 1955-1961. Honorary member of the DJB board. He was inducted into the honorary council. In 1999, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. He passed away today at the age of 87 in 2024 as a holder of the 9th Dan.
