Melissa Richard started Judo at 17 and won gold at Junior Nationals. Angelo Ruiz was her first coach, then coach Taimoc, and then the OTC under Eddie Liddie. She fought for 14 years in the shadow of many heavyweights. She trained 6-7 years to get the weight 300lbs lighter and a comeback in judo.
