Swedish Joakim Dvärby started to win bronze medals at IJF level in 2014 in Qingdao. He won bronze in 2015 in Zagreb, Baku and Ulaanbaatar U90kg. He was Swedish champion in 2011 and won various medals. Dvarby won European U23 bronze in 2011. He took a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Zagreb U100kg and bronze at the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi in 2016. He won a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Hohhot in 2017. The Netherlands dominated the last day of the Grand Prix in The Hague. With three gold medals and eight in total on Sunday it was clear that the Dutch are still a powerhouse in judo. With five gold medals over three days and twelve medals in total the Dutch have a great showcase. Russia’s Zankishiev breaks into the world’s top eight

World number eight Kazbek Zankishiev (RUS) became a two-time Grand Prix winner on the last day of The Hague Grand Prix as he saw off surprise finalist Hohhot Grand Prix bronze medallist Joakim Dvarby (SWE). The Russian is a notorious slow starter and both his scores in the final came in the last 45 seconds as Dvarby more than held his own up to that point. An osoto-gari started the scoring and was worth a waza-ari before a sode-tsurikomi-goshi added a second waza-ari and Zankishiev was awarded the win after four minutes. Read more

Russian Adlan Bisultanov was a leading performer in Zagreb as he defeated Dutch Budapest Grand Prix winner Michael Korrel to win his third Grand Prix gold medal. Korrel could not make it two back-to-back Grand Prix gold medals as he was on the receiving end of a drop seoi-nage which was worth a waza-ari score and was caught with a ko-uchi-gari for a yuko with a minute remaining.
