Mexican judoka Edna Carrillo won various World Cups U48kg with a fantastic serie in 2014. Carrillo competed at various World Championships. She won bronze at the Pan American Games in 2015 where she finished fifth in 2011 in Guadalajara. She won the PanAm Open in Lima in 2016. She won a silver medal at the Grand Prix in Cancun in 2017. She won the Pan American Open in Santiago in 2019 and took bronze in Cordoba. She took a bronze medal at the Pan American Championship in 2019 in Lima.

Brazil proved to be the strongest nation at the Pan American Open in Santiago de Chile this weekend. The Brazilians captured three gold medals. Four nations won two titles in Chile. Vanessa Chala of Ecuador and Marica Perisic of Serbia are the only two athletes who won all three Pan American Opens in Santiago, Cordoba and Lima. Read more

Chibana strikes first for Brazil with a narrow win over Mexico’s Carrillo

Gabriela Chibana of Brazil narrowly defeated Pan American Championships silver medallist Edna Carrillo (MEX) in the first final of the Cancun Grand Prix 2017. The 25-year-old Mexican judoka, who was already assured of attaining Mexico’s best result on the IJF circuit, slipped to defeat after 23 seconds of golden score as Chibana countered the home judoka for a match-winning waza-ari score. Guadalajara is the centre of World Judo this weekend

The annual World Judo Masters will be held this weekend in Mexico, in Guadalajara, 'The Pearl of the West' and Mexico’s second largest city. The city held events during the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games, the football World Cup’s at World Cup Mexico 1968 and 1986 and the hosted the multi-sport Pan American Games in 2011. In Guadalajara the world’s elite judoka as the top 16 ranked judoka in each category are automatically invited to battle it out at the Lopez Mateo Sports Centre. Read more

Russian women warmup at Panam Open in Lima

World number six U52kg Natalia Kuziutina made her comeback at the Pan American Open in Lima with a victory. The Russian female star and Olympic hope celebrated her return with a traditional warmup in South America where this weekend’s first PanAm Open is held in Peru. Last year she won silver in Santiago and gold in Montevideo. Next week the PanAm Open is in Buenos Aires (ARG) and in two week’s time in Santiago (CHI). Kuziutina defeated Laura Gomez of Spain.
