At the Grand Slam of Tyumen World number four Abe Kana of Japan emerged triumphant in Russia to the frustrations of her opponent, Sofia European Open bronze medallist Ekaterina Valkova of Russia and the home crowd. Abe registered a perfect record as she won all four of her contests by ippon including the final which was settled after just 22 seconds as a textbook uchi-mata earned ippon. Read more

The German crowd of 2800 judo enthusiasts saw four weight categories take to the tatami in search of Grand Prix honours. The women’s U63kg saw Israelian World champion Yarden Gerbi to bounce back from an early defeat in Paris by upstaging her U63kg adversaries. The field included world number five Martyna Trajdos, French Paris Grand Slam silver medallist Anne-Laure Bellard and world number three Abe Kana of Japan were among those aiming to deny the Israeli judoka. Europe wins unique Team Challenge against Asia

Europe has won the challenge against Asia. In the occasion of the ECCO Judo Team Challenge in Tyumen, the team of Europe defeated Asia by 10-4. The first successful shot was by Alesya Kuznetsova who defeated World Champion Munkhbat Urantsetseg. A good start for the European team. However it was World Champion Naohisa Takato who made the equalizer against Olympic Champion Arsen Galstyan. Nakato remained undefeated but is not ready yet to attend the Grand Slam of Paris.
