Estonian judoka Juhan Mettis won various World Cup medals as heavyweight since 2008. Almost each year a medal. Four in Tallinn, also medals in Minsk, Roma and Warsaw. Mettis is 6 time national champion. He won silver at the PanAm Open in Buenos Aires in 2016 and bronze in Lima and silver at the European Open in Tallinn in 2016.

Aliaksandr Vakhaviak spoils Estonian home victory in Tallinn

Estonian judoka Juhan Mettis was the favourite to take the gold in his category +100kg at the European Open in Tallinn but had to be satisfied with silver in the last match of the event. In the final Aliaksandr Vakhaviak of Belarus snatched the gold medal after three minutes by ippon after a mistake of Mettis. The Estonian won the African Open and booked good results at Pan American Opens in March. But just like in 2014 he finished with silver. Read more

European Open in Tallinn gives chances for new generation

The European Cup for Seniors in Tallinn is the first World ranking point scoring event of the EJU. 218 Athletes of 26 nations came to the Estonian capital for the 14 gold medals. Most over a new generation after the Olympic Games are aiming to settle for Tokyo 2020. Read more

Beka Gviniashvili successfully continues road to Rio in Buenos Aires

Beka Gviniashvili added another victory in his new weight class U100kg. At the Pan American Open in Buenos Aires he took the gold in the final against Grigori Minaskin of Estonia, who’s in a good shape as well lately, but Beka cannot be stopped in his quest to qualify for the Olympic Games. French athletes dominate African Open in Tunis again

France became the glorious winner of the first qualification event of the year, the African Open in Tunis. Not with 8 gold medals like last year, but five titles is still impressive enough. Also at the second day France had five finallists, the outcome was different. With 19 medals Les Blues took 34% of the available medals. Slovenia, Tunisia and Estonia all won two gold medals in Tunis. Read more

France and Estonia take gold in Tampere

Day two of the European Cup in Tampere delivered two gold medals for Estonia and two for France. First there was a gold medal U81kg for Olle Mattsson of Sweden. He won his first European Cup in his career. In the final he defeated French Timothee Besland. France was successcul though in the category U90kg where Sylvain El Faiz took the first place.
