Italian judoka Walter Facente won gold at the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi in 2013 U90kg which was one of his highlights among several international World Cup medals. He claimed two national Italian titles. He won silver at the PanAm Open in Lima in 2016. He took a bronze medal at the European Open in Belgrade in 2017.

All Japan Championships winner BAKER Mashu (JPN) won the second Grand Slam gold medal of his fast-rising career as he showed his quality all day long. BAKER defeated Samsun Grand Prix winner Noel VAN T END (NED) in the -90kg final with a yuko from an ouchi-gari opening the scoring. Tokyo Grand Slam 2013 winner BAKER defiantly resisted a ko-uchi-gake attack and protected his advantage for top spot. Read more

Dusseldorf Grand Prix bronze medallist Zviad Gogotchuri was Georgia’s star performer on the final day as he bested Abu Dhabi Grand Prix winner Walter Facente (ITA). While Varlam Liparteliani (GEO) was ruled out with a thigh injury his teammate Gogotchuri stepped up to occasion and held the Italian with yoko-shiho-gatame after throwing him for waza-ari. The final of the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi saw Italian Walter Facente and Dutchman Noël Van 't End. After almost two minutes of observation, Facente was the first one to score with an outstanding left handed tai-otoshi for waza-ari and with just 17 seconds remaining scored ippon with another superb technique (ko-uchi-gari).
