Chinese World Championships 2017 competitor Zi Yan was humbled by Kim Polling (NED) in Budapest WChs. Yan is back in 2018 for her second tilt at the Worlds. The former Cadet Asian Championships winner entered the IJF World Judo Tour with a fifth-place on home soil at the Qingdao Grand Prix. Yan fought at the Hohhot Grand Prix in 2017 and 2018 and exited both times in the preliminary rounds.
