The German Judo federation announced the team for the Olympic Games in Rio. National coaches Detlef Ultsch and Michael Bazynski gave arguments for their choices in a press conference and all athletes were nominated to the German National Olympic Committee. Read more

The weight division for women U52kg has become more competitive. In the past it was a rather boring category, but the Europeans have taken over with Majlinda Kelmendi of Kosovo as strong favourite, but also other athletes developed well. Andreea Chitu of Romania is one of the most experienced in the field and delivered some incredible performances. Chitu will face Laura Gomez or Distria Krasniqi, not the easiest starting match. Kelmendi truly has an easy pool and will walk straight to the semi final without wasting energy. Read more

Strong German teams strive for repetition of 2012 Grand Prix in Düsseldorf

Hosts Germany have entered a 51-strong team with 26 men and 25 women fighting over the three days at the Grand Prix of Düsseldorf. Mareen Kraeh still fighting at top level U52kg

Germany’s Mareen Kraeh became the winner of the Grand Prix of Havana. She’s is still fighting in the top despite her 31 years. Kraeh belongs to the potential medallists for Rio in the experienced German women’s team. In the category U52kg she’s fighting for qualification with Romy Tarangul who was also in Havana, but Kraeh convinced once again and seems to make it to Rio this time. Read more

World Ranking Leader Andreea Chitu is everywhere. The Romanian team are known as world travelers and start at most major events. Chitu medalled in almost all occasions. This year in Oberwart, Düsseldorf, Zagreb, Baku, Cluj, again Baku with a victory at the European Games but in Tyumen and the IJF Masters in Rabat she didn’t get to top 3. She won 21 of her 28 matches this year which is the highest win percentage ever. Last year Chitu won silver behind Majlinda Kelmendi, who, we published on Saturday is injured and won’t compete in Astana. Read more
