Judoka Sofia Asvesta from Cyprus clinched a bronze medal at the European Cup U21 Sarajevo in 2019. She took bronze at the Junior European Championships in Porec in 2020. She bagged a bronze medal at the European Open in Zagreb in 2021. It was the first ever medal a World Cup level for a Cypriotic woman. She bagged a bronze medal at the European Cup in Dubrovnik in 2021. She took a gold medal at the Asian Open in Lebanon in 2022. She took gold at the 19th Games of the small states in Pembroke and gold in 2024 in Nicosia. She bagged a bronze medal at the European Open in Tallinn in 2023.
