Finnish Jaana Sundberg was 5th at the Worlds in Rio in 2013. She comnpeted at the 2012 Olympic Games. She won her first Grand prix in 2010 in Rotterdam but had to wait 3 years for her next in Baku, Moscow and Tbilisi. She won European U23 bronze in 2005. She won more than 10 Finnish titles.

Emilia Kanerva opens the treasury for Finland

At the second and last individual day of the European Cadet Championships, next year’s host of this event could cheer. Emilia Kanerva boosted the event with a gold medal U57kg. The General Secretary of the Finnish Judo Association, Miikka Neuvonen, said: "It was the first time in 15 years that Finland won gold at a Cadet Europeans. It is definitely a boost for next year and we needed that. Everyone needs a role model and an example, and now we have one." Read more

Successful comeback for Jaana Sundberg battling for gold

The older and more experienced judoka seemed to have an advantage. World number 13 Jaana Sundberg of Finland made a successful return to the IJF World Judo Tour after an injury –ravaged end to 2014. The hard-working Finn triumphed against the ageless Belgian Ilse Heylen who turns 39 on Saturday but continues to defy the odds as she looks on course to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympics at the age of 40. Proud Kosovarian Kelmendi waves the flag in Paris

Kosova World champion Majlinda Kelmendi reigned in the French capital as she halted the title bid of Finnish Baku Grand Slam winner Jaana Sundberg in the U52kg final. Kosovo hero Kelmendi attacked with an uchi-mata at the halfway point which caught her opponent and the crowd by surprise for ippon. In the first semi-final Majlinda Kelmendi bested World Championships bronze medallist Mareen Kraeh with a clinical harai-goshi for ippon and pointed to her coach Driton Kuka with a cheeky smile before returning to her feet. In the second semi-final Jaana Sundberg defeated Andreea Chitu of Romania by an uchi-mata with an incredible rotation which left fans in awe. Read more
