Judo in Spain

Judo in Spain was successful for women: Isabel Fernández won the Olympic title in 2000 in Sydney. Miriam Blasco and Almudena Muñoz in 1992 in Barcelona. Ernesto Pérez was the only man to win an Olympic judo medal, in 1996 in Atlanta where Spain won three Olympic medals by Isabel Fernandez and Yolanda Soler. Miriam Blasco and Isabel Fernandez won the world title for the Spanish judo Federation in 1991 and 1997. Judo Spain had 25 European Champions, Sugoi Uriarte was the last in 2010 in Vienna. The European Open in Madrid is the biggest judo event. In 2018 Nikoloz Sherazadishvili won the first World Title for men and became the hero status.
