Japanese Takeda Ryoko defeats Finnish Emilia Kanerva U57kg

At the World Cadet Championships in Sarajevo Japan added another gold medals. Cadet Asian Championships winner Takeda Ryoko (JPN) bested Cadet European champion and EYOF bronze medallist Emilia Kanerva (FIN) in the U57kg final to win the Cadet world title on Friday. Finland’s ‘super rookie’ arrived in Sarajevo on the back of winning EYOF bronze and before that claimed 13 gold medals in a row on the circuit. Takeda whose role model is all-time great and IJF Hall of Famer Tani (née Tamura) Ryoko opened the scoring with a waza-ari and added two yuko scores to win gold.
In the first semi-final Kanerva (FIN) defeated 15-year-old Angelika Szymanska (POL) by a yuko while in the second semi-final Takeda beat EYOF silver medallist Anna Dabrowska (POL) by the same method.
The first bronze medal was won by Dabrowska (POL) who surpassed Cadet Pan American Cup winner Vitoria Andrade (BRA). The energetic 1st Kyu Andrade led by a yuko but just before the clock turned to zero the defiant Polish judoka caught the Brazilian with a tani-otoshi for ippon. The second bronze medal was won by Cadet European Cup silver medallist Hannah Deliu (GER) who bested Szymanska (POL) by a waza-ari for the final place on the podium.
