The first men's category on Saturday featured Japanese judoka as Taiki Nakamura, junior world champion in 2022, and Ryuju Nagayama, a bronze medallist in Paris this summer, qualified for the final.

Taiki Nakamura (JPN) vs Ryuju Nagayama (JPN) was a festival of attacks from both sides but as the end of normal time was approaching, Taiki Nakamura started to be more active than his opponent who, step by step, saw the number of penalties to his name rising, from 1 to 2 and 3. The gold medal was for Taiki Nakamura.
In the first contest for a bronze medal, Michel Augusto (BRA) and Ayub Bliev (IJF) faced off. Ayub Bliev pinned his opponent to win the bronze medal.
Yolk Kazirbyek (MGL) and Kenta Sekimoto (JPN) gave themselves a chance to climb onto the podium of the prestigious Tokyo Grand Slam. Sekimoto took the lead with a reverse seoi-otoshi that was rewarded with a waza-ari, enough to earn the medal
