The major events of Majlinda Kelmendi in U52kg
Majlinda Kelmendi is for sure the best sports ambassador of Kosovo. She is judo world champion in 2013 and 2014. She took bronze at the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo. She is 2014, 2016. 2017 and 2019 European Champion. Kelmendi was coached by Driton Kuka and now she is a coach herself.
Kelmendi was the proud Flagbearer for the first Olympic Games for Kosovo at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games where she won gold and was again flagbearer at Tokyo 2020. She claimed 22 World Cup victories (10 Grand Prix events, 7 Grand Slams, 1 Masters, 4 Continental Opens). She won the most Grand Prix events of everyone.
Her major events started tough after she had won her first Junior World title in 2009 in Paris.
2012 London Olympic Games
Majlinda Kelmendi started her Olympic campaign well, winning her first match with Waza-Ari-Awasete-Ippon. But she got the shock of her life when a little-known player from Mauritius countered her for ippon.
2013 Rio de Janeiro World Championships
A year after her devastating defeat at the 2012 London Olympics, Kelmendi emerged as World Champion, defeating the home favorite in the final of the 2013 Rio World Championships. This is the start of the Kelmendi dominance era.
2014 Chelyabinsk World Championships
Kelmendi continued with her dominance of the field the following year in 2014, easily defeating her opponents to clinch a second World title.
2016 Rio Olympic Games
This was her chance to create history, and she ran away with it. Though she did face a tough fight against Japan's Misato Nakamura in the semifinal, where she eked out a victory by a mere penalty. Still, it was enough to get her through to the final. And there was no stopping her there
