Masashi Ebinuma, renowned as one of Japan's judo greats, epitomizes professionalism, unwavering focus, and impeccable technique. With three world titles, two Olympic medals, and victories in prestigious competitions like Paris and Tokyo, his illustrious career speaks for itself.

Even before his retirement in 2020, Ebinuma was preparing for the next phase of his journey by delving into coaching. Now, as a new member of the Japanese national coaching team and an assistant coach for the -60 kg and -66 kg men, he brings his wealth of experience to guide the next generation of Japanese judo talents. Additionally, he serves as a coach for his company, Park24, a key sponsor of the Japanese team.

Ebinuma's time spent in the UK provided him with valuable insights into different coaching styles and approaches, as well as exposure to diverse cultures within and outside of sports. Contrasting Japan's traditional model of coaching, characterized by a sensei-disciple dynamic with a certain distance between coaches and athletes, he acknowledges the closer relationship between coaches and athletes in the UK and Europe.

As he embraces the coaching challenge, Ebinuma emphasizes the importance of transitioning from a selfish mindset as an athlete to a selfless one as a coach, dedicated to nurturing the potential of his athletes. With no personal goals aside from ensuring his athletes achieve success, he remains committed to continuous learning and growth in his new role.

With his blend of expertise, humility, and dedication, Masashi Ebinuma is poised to make a significant impact in shaping the future of Japanese judo coaching.
