Eljan Hajiyev of Azerbaijan secured the gold medal in the -90kg category at the Senior European Judo Championships after defeating Krisztian Toth of Hungary in the final. Despite Toth's experience and previous achievements, Hajiye's strength and agility proved decisive as he executed a tai otoshi followed by osae komi to claim the title. This victory adds to Hajiye's already impressive record, including a junior level gold two years ago. Just two days in advance of his 22nd birthday, that is simply a great gift.

In the same category, Lasha Bekauri of Georgia faced Murad Fatiyev of Azerbaijan in the bronze medal match. Despite an early setback, Bekauri rallied and executed a decisive ippon with an o soto gari, securing the bronze medal.

Still it was the best ever performance of Azerbaijan at European Championships with two gold medals and silver on day one.

Noel van 't End of the Netherlands competed in his 10th European Championships, determined to finally secure a medal. However, he faced a tough challenge against Alex Cret of Romania and ultimately conceded the match after receiving three shidos in golden score, ending his campaign with a fifth-place finish.
