What did Noël van 't End win?
Noël van 't End is one of the big contenders for Olympic gold in the future if he can relive the moment like he did in Tokyo in 2019. But the journey to the world title was not easy despite a number of times he finished on the podium at Grand Slam and Grand Prix events. However, the year before his successful World Cup, in 2018 he lost monies for not finishing in the top seven at the World Championships in Baku. Looking back on that moment, Noel said, "It was a difficult time for me, there was no money coming in, judo in the Netherlands is not like football, we don't earn a lot of money so it was a difficult time but I managed to get my head right again and go 100% for judo and that's why I moved to Papendal. From there I grew quickly. I think the big difference that helped me reach the top, to take my first Grand Slam gold, is the way we trained." This transition helped Noël van 't End take his game to the next level and he became world champion in 2019, in the home of Judo Tokyo itself.
Recently, Van 't End's career got another huge boost by winning the world's biggest judo tournament, the Paris Grand Slam where he showed he can compete with the best on the international circuit. At the Olympic Games in the same Paris, conditions and dealing with pressure will be decisive. The experienced Van 't End will therefore have a good chance of pulling off his stunt in Paris this year. At the Grand Slam of Antalya in April he will soon test his form. With less than 500 days left before the Games in Paris, the Netherlands has a real chance of winning an Olympic medal with Van 't End.
