Mittersill traditional start of the international training season
The international judo scene is traditionally meeting this week in Mittersill. 781 judoka from 50 nations will complete a total of 30 training sessions until 17 January and we’re almost halfway. Austria obviously has the largest contingent with 86 athletes, led by Olympic medallists Michaela Polleres and Shamil Borchashvili. Not only the quantity, but also the quality is impressive: 7 world number one, 5 current world champions and 14 Olympic champions are on the mat this week at the Sporthotel Kogler.
The "Olympic Training Camp Mittersill" is in its 29th edition held since 1994 and is considered the best quality judo training camp in the world with a long tradition of returning champions. "Everything is going according to plan so far, the first few days have already been completed," confirms organiser Ali Gmeiner.
"Mittersill is a must for every Austrian judoka. It feels like the whole judo family is visiting the Pinzgau, and at every randori session you can choose your training partner from a wealth of world-class people. The intensity of the sessions is extremely high," says Austrian head coach Yvonne Snir-Bönisch.
