The judo year 2022 will end from Tuesday to Thursday with the IJF Masters in Jerusalem. In the Austrian team Shamil Borchashvili is missing U81kg from the red-white-red squad. The Austrian Judo Federation withdrew the nomination for third place at the World Championships for disciplinary reasons. President Martin Poiger: “Shamil wanted to start in Jerusalem without (trainer) coaching.

From our point of view, this is unacceptable - the team rules apply to all athletes, including Shamil. We will try everything to get rid of the current differences of opinion as quickly as possible. For the Masters, however, our decision is irreversible.”

The IJF Masters in Jerusalem is the second most important tournament of the year (after the World Championships) in terms of world ranking and Olympic qualification points. There are 200 world ranking points for each of the 36 qualified starters for each weight class alone. There are 1,800 points for victory, 1,260 for second place and 900 for third place. A total of 376 judoka (179 women/197 men) will start in Israel, including 12 (of 14) world ranking leaders. Borchashvili is ranked world number six.

Meanwhile a peaceful solution is in the make. Detailed plans are to be drawn up in January. It is being discussed that the ÖJV will increase the coaching staff for the national team with Hitoshi Kubo and that Robert Krawczyk, European champion and World Cup medalist during his active time, will be responsible for Shamil Borchashvili in terms of competition and training planning. So that peace will return to the Judo Austria Team in 2023.
