South Korean judokas claimed three gold medals at the Hungarian Open Judo Championships held over the weekend in Budapest, Hungary. Park Sun-woo topped the podium in the –90kg class on Sunday, defeating Dmitri Budolin of Estonia by Waza ari and becoming the third South Korean to win gold out of the seven attending the event.

On the previous day teammates Jung Bu-kyung in the –66kg class and Cho Nam-seok in the –60kg also claimed gold. Jung defeated James Warren of England by Ippon in the final, winning all his six matches by Ippon, and Cho also scored an Ippon win over Japan’s Takeshi Ogawa in the final.

Veteran Yoon Dong-sik, however, failed to display an impressive result in his comeback. Yoon lost to Alexei Budolin of Estonia, bronze medallist at 2003 World Championships, by Ippon in the fourth round of the –81kg event.

Yoon returned to the mat three years after retiring with a bronze medal at 2001 World Championships in the hope of finally competing in the Olympics.
