Taipei stunt into new judo records

Taipei is doing extremely well at the first day of the Olympic Games with two Olympic medal candidates. Taipei have never won an Olympic medal in judo. Yang Yung Wei can become the first one if he qualifies for the final. At the opening ceremony we saw Telma Monteiro waving her Portuguese flag. She competes for the fifth time at the Olympic Games, since 2004. This triggered our stats heart to provide some fancy by the numbers.

33 - Age of SONG Dae-Nam (KOR) when he won the men's -90kg at the Olympic Games London 2012 to become the oldest judo gold medallist in Olympic history.

16 - Age of KYE Sun Hui (PRK) when she won gold in the women's -48kg at the Olympic Games Atlanta 1996 to become the youngest Olympic champion in judo.

14 - In Olympic Games judo, host NOCs have won 14 gold medals, including a record three by Japan in 1964 and by China in 2008.

12 - At the Olympic Games Rio 2016, Japan became the first NOC to collect more than 10 judo medals at a single Olympic Games, with 12.

6 - NOCs have won their first Olympic medal (at summer Games) in judo: Georgia, Israel, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
