At the Grand Slam of Tyumen Former world champion Misato Nakamura returned to the top of the IJF World Judo Tour medal podium for the first time since her 2011 world success in Paris. The 25-year-old Japanese saw off Abu Dhabi Grand Prix winner Yulia Ryzhova (RUS) who was denied gold in front of her home supporters.

In the first semi-final U52kg Ryzhova blocked the passage of world number two and top seed Erika Miranda by a waza-ari score. In the second semi-final Nakamura had the measure of former European champion and world bronze medallist Andreea Chitu of Romania by ippon after two minutes.

The first bronze medal was won by the experienced Chitu who registered a buzzer-beating waza-ari to see off Roni Schwartz of Irsael after the latter was penalised twice for gripping infringements. The second bronze medal went to Miranda who dispatched Spanish Laura Gomez after both judoka exchanged shido penalties for passivity. Miranda captured the final place on the -52kg medal podium by throwing her Spanish rival with ippon seoi-nage for the maximum score.
