Ryu Shichinohe marks career best with Grand Slam victory

Is Japanese Ryu Shichonohe the alternative champion after Teddy Riner? With the Grand Slam title in Paris Shichinohe impressed although the opposition behind the dominant Frenchman is poor compared to his standard. All Japan Judo champion Shichinohe Ryu won a career-best Grand Slam gold medal as he dismissed Tashkent Grand Prix bronze medallist David Moura (BRA) with a uchi-mata after just 13 seconds.
The Japanese judoka guaranteed a place in the final by countering Cuban former Olympic bronze medallist Oscar Braysonwho mistimed a uchi-mata attempt and Shichinohe drove him over with pure upper body control and strength. In the second semi-final Moura held firm against world bronze medallist Faicel Jaballah (TUN) who received two shido penalties while the Brazilian had an unblemished record. After five victories by Teddy Riner the O100kg category wasn't boring and interesting to see who can be Riner's challenger.
The first bronze medal was won by Jaballah who defeated German national champion Andre Breitbarth (GER) after the latter received hansoku-make for four penalties. The second bronze medal was clinched by World Judo Masters bronze medallist Renat Saidov (RUS) who dispatched Brayson by ippon at the halfway point.
