Fighters from local Judo clubs have been selected for the European Team Championships for Women squad announced today by British Judo. The Championships takes place in Oradea, Romania on 25 October 2003. Great Britain qualified for the finals earlier in the year and now face Germany, France, and hosts Romania for the title.

Commonwealth silver medallist Clare Lynch will represent Great Britain in the -48kg weight category. Rachel Wilding, who has won Gold medals at both the British and Belgium Open tournaments this year, will compete in the -78kg weight category. Both fighters train full time at the Camberley Judo Club under the direction of personal coach Mark Earle.
The team also includes Commonwealth Champion Georgina Singleton, from Pinewood Judo Club in Wokingham, who will be fighting in the -52kg weight category. The ex-European Champion won a bronze medal in the 2003 European Championships, and recently came fifth at the World Championships.
Pinewood teammate, Karen Roberts, a World and European medallist, and current Commonwealth Champion, will fight in the -63kg category. Diane Bell, Team Manager said: “It will be a tough tournament facing Germany and France, but if Great Britain performs to their potential on the day we will be able to get a good result.”
