Bernard Etoga passes away at the age of 37
Cameroon judoka Bernard Sylvain Mvondo Etoga passed away at the last day of the year 2020. For years, Bernard Etoga has represented his country and Africa in the biggest international competitions. He was born in 1983 in Yaounde and was just 37 years. In 1997 he was a finalist at the Games for French Speaking countries, while a few years later he won a medal at the Commonwealth Games (2002), in Manchester.
Bernard Etoga was several times champion of Cameroon and champion of the tournament of the city of Yaoundé. It was in 2004 that he became African Champion and was named best African judoka. This result opened the doors to the Olympic Games in Athens.
The previous year, he had been a quarter-finalist at the world championships in Osaka and participated in many world circuit tournaments including Paris, Düsseldorf, Munich and Osaka.
