The Judo competitions returned to Portugal on the 26th of September with another edition of the tournament to honor the father of Judo in Portugal, the master Kiyoshi Kobayashi.

Over the last 14 weeks the selection of Portugal is doing weekly internships in Coimbra, in these interns also a few athletes from other nations compete, especially Brazil. The team was in Portugal for many weeks. Brazil took eight gold medals, Spanish Alberto Gaitero the only gold for his country and the home country celebrated four gold medals for Portugal. Perhaps we should count in Taciana Cesar who lives in Portugal who took gold U52kg, still going strong.

The event didn’t have any public in the stands and had restrictive measures due to the pandemic however the tournament had 99 athletes. Some athletes were representing the national teams of Portugal, Brazil and Guinnée-Bissau. From Spain there were regional delegations from Galicia, Extremadura and Madrid and athletes representing national clubs.

In this competition were 10 athletes that are part of the Top20 of the list of the IJF world ranking.
