Neil Adams Awarded 9th Dan

Ahead of the final block, British judo legend Neil Adams, a double Olympic silver medallist, 1981 world champion and five-time European champion was awarded his 9th Dan in the AccorHotels Arena from the IJF President Mr. Marius L. Vizer.

IJF Hall of Famer Adams, who is now the ‘Voice of Judo’ as an IJF Commentator and IJF Referee Supervisor, moved into coaching after his remarkable competitive career and had spells with the Welsh Judo Association, British Judo Association and in Belgium in coaching and technical roles.

Neil Adams

Neil Adams is the 1981 World Champion and Olympic finallist in 1980 and 1984. Adams was 5 times European Champion 1979-1985. Adams was coach in England and Belgium and is considered as the voice of judo as IJF commentator.

IJF Voice Neil Adams runs double duties as commentator and IJF Referee Supervisor

Since 2017 Neil Adams is pulling double duties as an IJF Referee Supervisor and IJF commentator. Great Britain’s first male world judo champion won the World Championships in 1981 either side of reaching the final in the Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984 Olympics. Read more

New judo heroes are made at European Cadet Championships

This week the European Championships for Cadets will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria. This event is of a particular importance for many reasons. First of all, it is a qualifier for the World Cadet Judo Championships in Sarajevo in August. Secondly, the cadet age group is the first and most challenging step to the higher level, and many young judoka have proved to become a champion such as Arsen Galstyan, Ilias Iliadis, Elnur Mammadli and from the past Angelo Parisi. They all won the Olympic title later in their careers. Read more
