Countdown for inaugural Judo Grand Prix Tel Aviv

The IJF World Judo Tour 2019 will launch in just over a week with a brand new event. The new season will open in Israel with the inaugural Tel Aviv Grand Prix from Thursday 24 to Saturday 26 January.

Over 400 judoka from 53 countries will compete at the Shlomo Arena which is expected to be sold out on all three days.

Home star and European champion Sagi Muki will be one of the best supported judoka in Israel’s capital and will be an early favourite for gold.

Among the top athletes will be Tal Flicker, Baruch Shmailov U66kg, Peter Paltchik fighting for gold U100kg and back in the scene Or Sasson +100kg.

In the women’s division strong contenders with Rishony and Minsker U48kg, Primo and Temelkova U52kg. Nelson Levy U57kg and many more talents from the country where judo is the number one individual sport.

European champion Sagi Muki (ISR) won Grand Slam gold for the second time and soaked up every second of joy and emotion following the U81kg final against Zagreb Grand Prix silver medallist Matthias Casse (BEL). Muki, who previously registered Grand Slam in Baku in 2014, won their first meeting on his way to the European crown at home in April and was again superior to the former Junior World Championships winner. Israel and IJF ink contract for Tel Aviv Grand Prix in January

Israel will have a Grand Prix in 2019. In Abu Dhabi the IJF and the Israel Judo Association. IJF President Marius Vizer, Israel's Sports and Culture Minister Ms. Miri Regev and Israel Judo Association President Moshe Ponte signed a groundbreaking deal for Israel to host a Grand Prix event for the first time in 2019. Russian Grand Prix expert Alan Khubetsov denied Japan in the final of the Budapest Grand Prix, the runaway leaders of the medal table, one more title in Hungary as he outfought Tunis Grand Prix bronze medallist Kohara Kenya (JPN) in the -81kg final.
