Paris Grand Slam winner Ryu Shichinohe (JPN) won his second IJF World Tour Judo gold medal on the final day of the Ulaanbaatar Grand Prix. World number three was unable to compete in the final due to injury but Shichinohe was good value for his gold medal as he prepares for a tilt at world glory in August.

In the first semi-final OKRUASHVILI had the better of countryman Levani MATIASHVILI (GEO) as a result of hansoku-make for four shido penalties while SHICHINOHE defeated Baku Grand Slam bronze medallist Daniel NATEA (ROU) by ippon to progress.

The first bronze medal went to NATEA as he defeated Madrid European Open silver medallist Maciej SARNACKI (POL) in 51 seconds by harai-makikomi while the second bronze medal went to MATIASHVILI who defeated BATTULGA Temuulen (MGL) with a single yuko proving the difference.
